Commissioned as part of Allen & Overy’s internal DEI campaign, You and Me is a four-part short film interview series exploring the human stories behind mentorship in corporate law. Each film paired a mentor and mentee in separate rooms one speaking while the other listened in silence to reflections not normally shared aloud.
Kumo London was brought in by Preference Studio to provide camera operation and technical support for the production company 33RED Films. Our work focused on capturing each interview moment with sensitivity and precision ensuring consistency across multiple setups, while maintaining the emotional integrity that defined the project.
STRATEGIC INSIGHT
This project demanded more than technical delivery. Each participant entered the room unaware of what their counterpart would say, creating spontaneous emotional reactions that required both discretion and cinematic clarity.
Kumo London’s role as camera operator was rooted in emotional intelligence, anticipating subtle moments, maintaining unobtrusive framing, and balancing soft lighting with compositional restraint. By allowing silence and timing to lead, we helped the story unfold naturally, holding space for truth, not performance.
WHY THIS MATTERS
In an age of overproduced corporate content, You and Me reminds us that the most powerful stories already exist within organisations, waiting to be heard.
By focusing on authentic human connection between colleagues, this project helped shift the narrative of mentorship from policy to people. It’s the kind of work that aligns deeply with Kumo London’s ethos: emotionally intelligent filmmaking grounded in empathy, authorship and cultural resonance.
