Filmed in collaboration with Four Communications and Preference Studio, this short documentary spotlights pioneering architect Bill Dunster, whose innovative eco-homes represent a bold step towards the UK’s 2050 net-zero goal.

Captured on location at his self-built sustainable home, the piece combines interview-led storytelling with cinematic rural landscapes emphasising how renewable energy, architecture, and community living can coexist to drive meaningful change.

STRATEGIC INSIGHT

The project aimed to raise public awareness of off-grid energy solutions and green home design within the broader context of the UK’s sustainability agenda.

By embedding Dunster’s voice both literally and visually into the natural environment he helped shape, the film positioned architectural innovation as a tangible route toward net-zero living, rather than an abstract policy goal.

WHY THIS MATTERS

This project reflects how authorship, design, and environmental stewardship converge. It highlights the value of accessible, community-driven green technology  showing how everyday choices in housing and energy infrastructure can power the future of sustainable travel and living.

For Yohan Forbes, who provided camera and offline editing services for Preference Studio, this film represented a chance to document an environmental pioneer whose ideas merge architecture with purpose.

The process of shaping the narrative and visual tone was a reminder that meaningful storytelling begins with empathy seeing sustainability not just as design, but as an act of care for future generations.

For Kumo London, this project stands as a quiet example of authorship through craft: using film to translate innovation into emotional clarity.
