Fear The Future is a visceral, concept-driven horror short disguised as a music video. Conceived by Matt Warneford, the band’s front-man and creative architect, the film became a commentary on digital anxiety and the shadow of progress.
Shot in controlled, claustrophobic interiors, the project visualises isolation through flickering CRT screens, fragmented identity, and violent self-confrontation. As director and cinematographer, Yohan Forbes translated Warneford’s vision into cinematic language: tight lenses, minimal lighting, and deliberate contrast between decay and neon.
Visual-effects artist Tom Howe transformed the footage into a fever dream, veins glowing beneath skin, synthetic eyes reflecting static, monsters born from projection light. Every effect was executed practically or composited frame-by-frame, creating a texture closer to 1980s physical horror than modern CGI sheen.
Performances by Dean Rose and Nick Foster anchor the surrealism with humanity, turning fear into something intimate and recognisable.
STRATEGIC INSIGHT
The collaboration united three creative worlds musician, filmmaker, and VFX artist, under a shared fascination with dystopia and emotional release. For Kumo London, this project marked an early exploration into genre filmmaking, proving that cinematic authorship can exist even within micro-budget, artist-led productions.
It also demonstrated Kumo’s flexibility across tone: shifting from soulful realism Aurora Dee Raynes - Crazy That You Love to stylised horror while maintaining emotional truth and collaborative authorship.
WHY THIS MATTERS
Fear The Future became a turning point in redefining how independent musicians visualise fear, identity, and rebellion. The video stands as an example of Kumo’s belief that genre filmmaking can coexist with musical storytelling, that horror, when handled with intelligence and respect for human psychology, becomes another language of empathy.
It cemented Kumo London’s approach: adapt, listen, translate energy into image, and always protect creative authorship.
